Movie Title: Grave of the Fireflies Grave of the Fireflies is available for streaming or downloading. |
I generally don’t sob at movies. I worship any movie that can go me enough to shed a roam or two. Grave Of the Fireflies is not one of those movies. In those movies even though I’m dim the final scenes leave me with a residual hope that while some tragic event has honest occured the charecters fervent will grow and live better. Grave of the Fireflies doesn’t do this. There is no hope or possiabilty of things getting better. This is Life at it’s cruelest. Life that will never net better. This movie doesn’t fade you, it shatters you.
Seita And Setsuko (the boy and His microscopic sister) aren’t Heros and their abusive aunt isn’t the villian. Neither for that matter is either side of the war protrayed as righteous or awful in these movie. This is honest a tale of people being people. some kind, some indiffrent and some compleatly harsh. Seita makes mistakes that many children in his residence would.
Although fifteen years ragged this film is tranquil very beatiful. The images it portrays are smooth and subdued yet elegent. The final scene is something that shall forever be burned into my brain. It’s touching and heartwrenching finality should fracture most people.

Well I fancy Grave of the Fireflies. I Worship it for it’s unflinching gawk at war and life, It’s splendid bueaty as it portrays a young girl playing amidst Fireflies, and for what it does to me at the raze.
Why must fireflies die so young?
“Grave of the Fireflies” (”Hotaru no haka”) is one of the most distinguished anti-war films I have ever seen, which means that it has no competition when it comes to emotional impact in terms of though-provoking films. The death of Bambi’s mother was a traumatic shock, but nothing like the sense of despair and exertion that overwhelms you by the demolish of this film. The film begins with the spirit of a young boy showing us his death in a speak site, after which we follow the fireflies into the past to look his anecdote. At the beginning of the modern movie of “Brian’s Song” we were told: “All fair stories demolish in death. This is a factual memoir.” So is “Grave of the Fireflies” because I have no plight granting the legitimacy of “truth” to fiction.

In the last months of World War II an American fire bomb raid destroys the port city of Kobe, where almost all of the buildings are made of wood. Seita (Tsutomu Tatsumi/J. Robert Spencer) is a 14-year archaic boy who survives along with his 4-year faded sister Setsuko (Ayano Shiraishi/Rhoda Chrosite) . They were separated from their mother during the raid, which spares them from her fate. Their father is a navy officer serving in the Imperial Navy at sea, and the two kids go off to live with an aunt. With both his school and the war factory where we worked gone, Seita does not know what to do. So he tries to rob care of his sister. But his aunt constantly berates him and after trading his mother’s kimonos for rice that she stingly shares with the children, Seita decides to occupy Setsuko and live in a couple of caves dug for bomb shelters. For a while their live remains idyllic, but then there is nothing left to trade for food, and no food to be bought for money. Seita has to engage food to survive while Setsuko is getting weaker and weaker from hunger.
This film is based on the semi-autobiographical recent written by Akiyuki Nosaka, which won the Naoli Prize, the Japanese equivalent of the Pulitzer Prize for Literature. Like Seita, he survived the fire bombing with a younger sister, who died in his care. Obviously the myth stems from a sense of guilty and I bear telling this record was confessional rather than cathartic for Nosaka. Writer-director Isao Takahata turns this tragedy into what can only be described as a poetic experience, achieving a cinematic lyricism that could never have been accomplished in a live-action film (e.g., the blueprint the fireflies have a counterpoint in the pieces of ash that drift on the wind after the fire bombings) . There is a quietness to this film, a sense of contemplation that emphasizes principal and diminutive moments alike, and makes scenes linger as the heart-rending fable plays out to its fatal conclusion. The disclose work by both of the young girls playing Setsuko is extremely effective; I have a minute preference for that done by Ayano Shiriashi simply because it is great more naturalistic than what you usually obtain in anime depicting children.

“Graves of the Fireflies” is an unforgettable film, one which will slash most viewers to tears if not outright sobbing. Watching it is a painful experience, but then a film depicting the horrors of war and showing what happens to young children is supposed to have that execute. Viewing it a second time makes the experience even more intense (you probably will not net what Setsuko’s last words are the first time through, but be prepared for what it will do to you when you perceive the film again) . You will never, ever forget this film and you should be very, very careful about showing it to younger children, because it will change forever what they believe about keen films. It will do that for you as well.

Unusable Indoors![]()
This camera claims to have full hd. But don’t be fooled, it only supports 1080i/60i. It would have been much nicer if it was 1080p. Also the image quality is mediocre thanks to it’s new bsi cmos sensor.
Now for the 2 main problems i encountered that made this camera almost unusable.
1. There is a high pitched sound coming from the camcorder near the mic, so it is natural that the mic pick’s up the sound and amplify’s it in the video. The sound is there all the time and is very annoying when playing back video.
2. The Camera lags when it shoots in low light. It seems like the fps nearly drops 1/2. Also when moving the camera side to side in low light it seems that the image is tearing(Top half of video is moving faster then bottom half).
Now for the other aspects of this camera.
Image Quality:
In low light there was a lot of noise. Outdoors it did okay, but the colors were not that sharp and bright. Pictures were average, they are not actually 4.7 mpxl’s but rather upscaled. Image quality was comparable to a cell phone.
Focusing:
There is touch focusing which is somewhat cool, but the camera has a very slow focus. Objects will often remain blurry for extended periods of time while the camera attempts to focus on it.
Design:
The camcorder is very slim and small. The touchscreen is glossy and actually looks quite nice. They seemed to have ditched the cylindrical shaped body and swivel grip design for a more conventional camcorder design. The touchscreen hinge is very loose and feels very awkward, would have been nice if was more secure to the body of the camcorder. The Hmx H100 had built in flash and a automatic closing lens. The HMX H200 seems like a step backwards as it lacks both of these functions. I originally thought the camcorder had a 37mm thread as advertised but i was mistaken. It seems that the thread is 34mm.
Pricing:
At $399.99 for the HMX H200, and $299.99 for the HMX H100. I would have to say the HMX H100 was a better deal due to it’s above average reviews and added features.
Sound:
If you can ignore the high pitched sound then the sound that the mic picks up is actually pretty good. But the high pitch sound sometime is louder then the other sounds around you.
Overall:
I’m pretty sure my camcorder is not defective, due to the fact my previous samsung camcorder’s all had a high pitched frequency.
I would avoid this camcorder at all costs. I feel like i wasted yet another 400 bucks on a samsung camcorder.
Great Camcorder – easily worth the investment![]()
I purchased this camera and have been using it for several weeks. The hi-pitched ringing that others complain about is imperceptible to me – even in a zero-ambient noise environment. This is an electronic device, so you might hear a soft hum under very quiet circumstances, but just about every camcorder does that… But I can’t hear anything worth complaining about. I am using fast class 10 SDHC card, so maybe that makes a difference.
I am a former broadcast news videographer with a few Emmy’s tucked away in my closet – so I should have some credibility with this review. I was not looking for a pro camera. I was looking for a good quality, affordable, HD camera to record my growing family. I love my Samsung HDTV and refrigerator, so I decide to give their camcorders a shot. Bottom line: This is a great, inexpensive HD camcorder, which easily fits my requirements. And at a cost of $297 out the door (I got a good price + another $97 for the SDHC card) it is hard to beat. Can it compare with a 3-chip prosumer camera costing thousands? No… and Yes. No, the lower-cost components don’t compete equally with higher cost components – and they are not meant to. But yes, in that all things being equal, a good shooter with this Samsung will shoot the socks off of an average shooter using any high-end camera. No camera, no matter how expensive, can compensate for poor shooting skills. A good shooter with this Samsung can do great things.
Some people complain about blurred or ghost images when shooting in very low-light with this camera. Here are a couple of suggestions: make sure the electronic image stabilization is turned off (this can lead to image blurring in low light), don’t zoom in (which lets in less light), use a class 10 SDHC card… and the most obvious – throw some light on your subject! Really, if it’s too dark to shoot then don’t shoot. Or at least accept the lower quality video – low-light means low-quality, which is why the pros travel with a light kit and take the time to light properly. This is video, not film. I also shoot on 720p, which seems to produce the most consistent results in a variety of lighting and motion conditions.
Now, some specifics… this camera is small and light. It can feel a little flimsy (especially the flip out screen) and the touch screen is not the most responsive, but I am getting used to it. I wish it had a mic jack, manual audio and better manual focus controls. I wish it had a separate, shielded view-finder in addition to the 2.7 inch touch screen – especially since it is hard to see in bright sunlight. I wish the shutter speed went as low as 1/30th of a second (instead of just 1/60th) which would let in more light under lower light conditions. But I guess all those features would make the camera cost more as well. The built in editing software is a nice touch and is good enough for basic editing, including some nice effects. This should be fine because the golden rule for editing is “less is more.” I am having a problem launching clips directly from this program for viewing and trimming – but I can do so while editing. This makes managing clips more difficult and may be a compatibility issue. Regardless, I will need to buy a dedicating editing package which is disappointing since basic editing is all that I need to do and I should be able to use the bundled package, but can’t.
On the upside, it has a 20x optical zoom, is easy to hold steady, has great video quality, has long-battery life (since it not spinning a hard drive, which should also make it more durable), powers-up fast, has built in editing features, is an easy point-and-shoot camera for family use, has robust manual controls even if you have to dig around a little, has “touch point” focus to focus anywhere just by touching the screen and a cool time-lapse shooting feature. And since I travel often, one of my favorite features is that you can charge this camera via the USB cable – which is perfect for me. The freedom to ditch the AC charger while traveling is a huge advantage and makes me more mobile. In all, Samsung put some very thoughtful features in this little camera for the shooter on the go. I highly recommend it and am very pleased with my purchase.
High pitch noise coming from camcorder![]()
Wow, I thought my H200 was defective because I also was irritated by the high pitch noise coming from the camera and being fed into the mic. It’s oddly comforting to know I wasn’t hearing things and that there really was something wrong with the camera. Fortunately, I was able to return mine.
It is a pity though, because overall the camera seemed fine for general non-professional use. This was my first real camcorder and I thought the video was fine for my needs.
The plastic did feel a bit flimsy and noticed it was very fingerprint prone due to the glossy plastic. I also didn’t like the manual lens cover and the record button seemed a bit difficult to work with (hand felt strained). I did notice that the frame rate dropped noticeably in low light but I heard that is common with most compact camcorders.
Hopefully they’ll correct the problems down the road because it did seem to have potential… oh well, maybe Sammy will get it right with the new S10/S15/S16 models.

DELL Inspiron 1720 17″ Widescreen Notebook, 2.0GHz INTEL CORE 2 DUO, WiFi, 3GB RAM, 160GB, CDRW/DVDRW+DL, Webcam, Bluetooth, Windows Vista Home Premium Description:
As one of the first of the mainstream computer manufacturers to develop a laptop around the new Intel Core Duo processor, Dell has much riding on the success of the new Inspiron 1720. The 2.0GHz Core 2 Duo processor will either sink or swim in Dells mainstream portables depending upon its reception here. Matched with 3GB of PC2-5300 DDR2 that promises to run even the thirstiest applications with aplomb, the major yardstick is not whether Core 2 Duo can keep pace with the Pentium M (Dothan), but whether it can perform without reducing battery life to minutes rather than hours. Yet having said that, it is easy to think that the Inspirons sole point of interest is the aforementioned CPU. You see, this is Dells attempt at an all-in-one laptop: a workhorse that sits as comfortably in office attire as it does in casuals. With fast-access email buttons, ample memory and a weight of 3.6kg, its a suitable office-based and on-the-go machine. Yet with Media Center bundled in, to give the control buttons at the foot of the casing something to do, and a 17in widescreen display, the Inspiron seems built for handling movies as comfortably as Excel spreadsheets. Visually, the arctic silver and black casing is an interesting reworking from Dell. The colour scheme and layout of the keyboard and tracker pad hint at a classiness that some might dismiss as tacky trend-chasing. But it actually works rather well, giving the screen a comfortable border in gentle silver rather than harsh black.

Avoid this like the plague.![]()
I purchased a Dell Inspiron 1720, refurbished, and it has been nothing but trouble since the box was opened. During the “Computer Set-Up” Vista crashed & rebooted the machine. It kept randomly rebooting, without any rhyme or reason: While I was looking at the installed programs; When I tried some of the pre-packaged games (solitaire); When I was online using Windows Explorer; When I was using my Firefox browser. It would restart with multiple programs or a single program running.
The obvious fix was to upgrade to Windows XP. Except that this machine is engineered so that it is not backwards compatible with any OS prior to Vista.
It was even replaced with another refurbished machine which crashed just as frequently and inexplicably.
Then they replaced some of the hardware (CPU & Hard drive) and returned it without reinstalling the operating system or any software. After I did that the computer continued to randomly reboot. Now they want to return to the beginning and make me do their diagnostic work for them instead of making good on their poorly designed machine.
Buy something else instead. There has not been one PC in my possession that has not needed serious effort to get to work at the most basic level, and this machine continues that experience. Save your money & aggravation…buy some other system.
they’re great!![]()
We’ve had one for 2 years -no problems at all, and bought another 3 months ago with Vista, and it works great. It’s vastly over priced here though. Can get it for half that amount.

Customer Reviews:
Great case!![]()
Bought the case in anticipation of our trip to Mexico because I wanted an entry level camera to take scuba diving w/ me. I had tested the camera out in the pool first with no problems whatsoever and christened the case (without the camera at first; a must for every camera case) on a 100 foot deep dive. The case held up great (though it was really buoyant without the camera in it). I ended up leaving my SD1100 in the housing for most of the vacation. I took it in the pool, snorkeling w/ Sea Turtles, on several scuba dives, jumped into cenotes (mexican fresh water sink holes) from a height of about 17 feet with it and used it extensively playing in the water on the beach with the kids. It was awesome shooting video while scuba diving too. The dive shop we used sends out an underwater videographer who puts together a video for you to buy. I liked shooting my own video much better.
I see that they sell weights to go w/ the case. Totally unnecessary in my opinion. With the camera in the housing, the case became only slightly positively buoyant. This is a plus in my opinion as I can go after something that floats up, but would be really upset to see my SD1100 and $170 case head south to crush depth.
Couple of reminders. As with any piece of dive gear (and I consider this housing to be such), you have to follow some simple rules. Every time I put the camera in, I would check the O ring for debri. I’ve read reviews where people had poor results and I can garantee, if you have a break in the seal, you will get water penetration. I also keep a silica packet in the case at all times. I read about condensation occurring and this will be as a result of either trapped humidity in the case (definately easy to do in the tropics) or wide temperature differences between the air in the case and the ambient air temperature.
One note though. Remember that without a real good sized external flash that almost most underwater pictures will be dominated by the blue tones and colors, so set your expectations accordingly. You won’t be taking National Geographic pictures with this camera underwater.
In the end, I returned from my vacation w/ tons of photos that would have beeen impossible w/out this case. A fantastic addition to my camera gear. LOVE IT!
Works Wonderfully![]()
Took this to Kona when I went snorkeling. I was a little nervous about my camera getting ruined. Nothing to worry about! Got incredible pictures and neck strap made this easy to keep in the water with me. Definitely read thru the instruction book to know how to get a good seal and use the lubricant. I’m so glad I purchased this!
Good value, easy to use![]()
Pros: Easy to install around camera. Gives access to all camera features. Takes sharp, clear pictures under water or in air. Has helpful warnings about what to watch for to ensure no leaks. Though obviously quite a bit larger than the naked camera, still surprisingly compact. Looks durable and well-made.
Cons: Has loose parts that could get mislaid when not actually in use on the camera–needs a drawstring bag or something to keep everything together.
Notes: haven’t yet tested it under more than a little water.

A slick rechargeable touchscreen remote from Logitech![]()
Watch Video Here: http://www.amazon.com/review/R3SLVZLG7R7EK7 A video review of the Logitech Harmony One, focusing on a few fun features like the motion sensor, rechargeability (with included docking station), and ability to replace 5 of our other remotes, including the specialized Tivo remote. Easy to program and easy to use touch screen makes this a very cool remote control.
Fantastic Remote: Simple to Program, Even Easier to Use!![]()
A year ago, I purchased the Logitech Harmony 880 Advanced Universal Remote Control and have liked it so much that I had determined to buy a second remote this year in order to have one upstairs and one downstairs. Although both the Harmony 880 and the new Harmony One each control many devices (I currently have 14 devices configured on each), it became tiresome to have to go to a different floor of the house to grab the remote for the other level. Then Amazon Vine received the Harmony One remote from Logitech for review, and I was thrilled to be able to review it.
The Harmony 880 and the Harmony One are very similar in functionality and programming. Both are programmed using a USB interface to your PC and the Logitech Harmony Remote Software. Both can handle multiple devices with considerable ease, allowing for most users to configure every remote-controlled device in their home. Both remotes can `learn’ from the original remote if you are not able to configure a device using the model number. Both of these remotes enjoy a rechargeable dock.
Where the significant improvements are in the Harmony One over the Harmony 880 are the feel of the device in the hand, the improved backlit hard buttons that are easy to see in the dark, and a dock that cradles the remote much better (making it more difficult for your cat to knock the remote out of the dock! LOL). Also, with significant spaces between buttons on the Harmony One, it is easier to feel your way around the remote without looking.
If you are replacing an older Harmony remote, the Logitech Harmony software offers the opportunity to `replace’ the currently configured device with the newer device, transferring your device setup for all the TVs, VCRs, DVRs, etc. to the new remote with little effort. As I did not want to replace, but add a new remote, I didn’t use this function myself.
For those of us who are adding a new remote, I was a bit disappointed in the Harmony Remote software. You cannot have multiple remotes under one Logitech account. Instead, you must set up a separate ID for each remote. Many people use the same ID for most computer programs and online sites requiring one, and this requirement may cause some trouble for us in the future. I can easily imagine that the next time I need to program this remote I may have forgotten the ID I used to set it up with. While I keep pretty good track of my IDs and passwords, it will be hard to remember a year from now that I had to use a non-standard ID for this one. I would like to see the software revised to allow for multiple remotes in one account, and the ability to copy configurations from one to another.
On the bright side, the software really does make it easy to configure your televisions, Tivos, DVD players and more. If you have the model number of that device, this is the simplest method of configuring it, and with an extensive database of model numbers – including some very old tvs and the like (judging by my own setup), it is a pretty sure-fire way to set up your Harmony One Remote quickly and easily.
Of course, there are times when you simply cannot find the model number for a device. My bedroom television does not have a model number anywhere that I can find it. So, I used the `learn’ function on the Harmony One Remote to teach the Logitech device the correct codes, using my original remote from the television. Even if you haven’t the original remote, the remotes are still easy to configure using the brand name and the device type (i.e. Sharp TV) in the Harmony software.
Programming custom buttons for devices is very easy. I like to control the volume on my television while the remote is in Tivo mode, so I simply used the TV remote to program the volume buttons on the Harmony One Remote for the specific TV I will use. This procedure is as simple as lining up the two remotes and clicking the button you are configuring, then letting the Logitech software do its magic!
So far, I have configured a variety of devices with this remote easily: TVs, TiVos, DVD players, VCR, Cable Boxes, and an A/V receiver. None were problematic, and all work very well. I highly recommend the Harmony One Remote for anyone who wants to combine all their remotes to one and prefers ease of configuring. Oh, and it looks pretty sharp, too. Especially with my own photographs downloaded to run a pretty screensaver!
Logitech’s Best Harmony Yet…But Could Still Be Better![]()
The introduction of the new Logitech Harmony One Advanced Universal Remote has really raised some eyebrows and produced a lot of chatter in the electronics gadget market. Once you see this remote and try it for yourself you will understand what all the buzz is about!
The Harmony line of universal remotes has become the most popular among average consumer grade remotes here in the U.S. Although not cheap, the Logitech Harmony series offers great functionality, easy computer-based programmability, and stylish looks at a somewhat affordable price. I already owned two other Harmony remotes, including the Logitech Harmony 550 Universal Remote and the Logitech Harmony 880 Advanced Universal Remote Control, before deciding to buy the new Harmony One. The 880 model has proven to be a wonderful but somewhat frustrating remote to own. It has very small buttons, a smallish color LCD display, and I had problems with the charging feature working properly when sitting the remote in its charging cradle. The Harmony one improves on all of these aspects. This new remote has much larger buttons, which have unique shapes that make it easy to determine function of most buttons by feel (so you don’t have to look at them before pressing). The LCD screen is bigger, brighter, and has a much higher resolution; not to mention the fact that it is a touch screen. The newly designed charging cradle is formed precisely to hold the new Harmony One snug, so it cannot wobble and lose connection with the charging contacts. The Harmony One is a slight bit larger than the Harmony 880 and 890 series remotes, but feels more balanced in the hand; likely due to the remote’s wonderful contoured body. Setting up the new Harmony One could not be much easier, using the same USB interface and Harmony Remote software that all of the other Harmony remotes utilize. If you already have a previous Harmony remote, you can copy over all of the activities and devices onto the new Harmony One. However, doing this will cause you to lose any custom button settings. As could be expected, the Harmony One also has an IR learning capability, so you can teach it IR commands from other device remotes that you have.
Although some of the features of this new model are not unique from other Harmony models, here are a few of the perks you get with the newly designed Harmony One:
- Beautiful 2.2″ LCD Touch Screen Display (220 by 176 pixels)
- 40 Essential Backlit Function Buttons, With Unique Shapes That Make Them Easy To Identify By Touch
- USB Interface Allows Easy Setup via Computer With Included Harmony Remote Software
- Harmony Remote Software Currently Includes Database Of More Than 5,000 Manufacturers and 175,000 Devices.
- Activities Can Be Programmed For One Touch Control Of Your Entire Home Entertainment and/or Home Automation System (i.e., Watch DVD, Listen to CD, etc.)
- Up To 15 Devices Can Be Programmed, Meaning You Can Essentially Replace 15 Remotes With The Harmony One
- Logos Can Be Added For Favorite Channels Or Device Functions (although setting this up can be rather tedious!)
- Rechargeable Litium Ion Battery Powers Remote For Several Days Between Charges
- Up To 8 Photos Can Be Uploaded For Slideshow On LCD Display (resolution and file size limitations apply!)
- Ergonomic Body Fits Well In Hand And Feels Light And Well Balanced
- Included Charging Cradle Holds Remote Snug And Keeps Remote Charged And Ready For Use
- IR Learning Feature Allows Custom Teaching Of Specialized Device Remote Commands
- Built-In Motion Sensor Automatically Tuns On Backlighting When Remote Is Picked Up Or Tilted
With the good you always have to expect some bad, and the Harmony One does indeed have a few flaws that nick my overall score of this otherwise awesome device:
- Glossy Surface Of Remote Promotes Ugly Finger Print Smudges And Accentuates The Appearance Of Dust Particles
- Only 3 Activities Are Displayed On LCD At One Time (you can flip pages to display other activities in sets of 3)
- No RF or Bluetooth (IR only!)
- No WiFi for Remote Setup (must be plugged directly into PC via included USB cable)
- Photos and Custom Button Icons Can Be Painful To Setup and Configure
- Remote Wobbles A Bit When Sitting On Hard Surface (counter top, night stand, etc.)
- Cannot Customize Order Of Device List
- No Tactile Response/Feedback for Touchscreen Buttons
Overall I am extremely pleased with my new Logitech Harmony One Advanced Universal Remote. It is definately a step up from my Harmony 880 model. However, with a $250.00 price tag this may not be a practical choice for everyone. Many of the cheaper Logitech Harmony universal remotes offer most of the same capabilities; just not with all of the bells, whistles and high-tech style as you get with the Harmony One. I definately wish Logitech had designed this remote with a matte finish, rather than the finger print attracting gloss finish. I also wish they included the ability to customize the order in which it displays the device list. I have 15 devices programmed into my Harmony One, and I find myself flipping through page after page in order to find the device I want (since the LCD only displays 3 per page). These design oversights, and those listed in my cons list above, as well as the hefty price tag prevent me from giving this wonderful remote a 5-star rating. Still, the Harmony One is one of the best, affordable, full-featured universal remote controls you will find on the market today (IMO). Since this remote has firmware that can be upgraded via the Harmony Remote Software, I am hoping that Logitech tweaks this device a little over the coming months. Still, there is no way for them to add features like RF, Bluetooth or WiFi without introducing an upgraded model in the future. This means that buying the Harmony One today may leave you wanting a newer (improved) model, which is sure to be released by Logitech in the near future (as they did when they introduced the Harmony 890 after many of us had already purchased the Harmony 880!). If you are looking for a sleek, one remote solution for your home entertainment and/or home automation needs, and you can live without RF and Bluetooth for the foreseeable future, then I highly recommend the Logitech Harmony One. It really is one amazing remote control device!

Watch Grave of the Fireflies Movie Online.
Movie Title: Grave of the Fireflies Grave of the Fireflies is available for streaming or downloading. |
I generally don’t scream at movies. I worship any movie that can fade me enough to shed a crawl or two. Grave Of the Fireflies is not one of those movies. In those movies even though I’m sunless the final scenes leave me with a residual hope that while some tragic event has objective occured the charecters fervent will grow and live better. Grave of the Fireflies doesn’t do this. There is no hope or possiabilty of things getting better. This is Life at it’s cruelest. Life that will never accept better. This movie doesn’t depart you, it shatters you.
Seita And Setsuko (the boy and His cramped sister) aren’t Heros and their abusive aunt isn’t the villian. Neither for that matter is either side of the war protrayed as profitable or poor in these movie. This is honest a yarn of people being people. some kind, some indiffrent and some compleatly harsh. Seita makes mistakes that many children in his space would.
Although fifteen years used this film is quiet very beatiful. The images it portrays are calm and subdued yet elegent. The final scene is something that shall forever be burned into my brain. It’s touching and heartwrenching finality should smash most people.

Well I fancy Grave of the Fireflies. I Like it for it’s unflinching examine at war and life, It’s glowing bueaty as it portrays a young girl playing amidst Fireflies, and for what it does to me at the raze.
Why must fireflies die so young?
“Grave of the Fireflies” (”Hotaru no haka”) is one of the most great anti-war films I have ever seen, which means that it has no competition when it comes to emotional impact in terms of engaging films. The death of Bambi’s mother was a traumatic shock, but nothing like the sense of despair and pain that overwhelms you by the ruin of this film. The film begins with the spirit of a young boy showing us his death in a hiss set, after which we follow the fireflies into the past to peep his anecdote. At the beginning of the new movie of “Brian’s Song” we were told: “All legal stories destroy in death. This is a legal myth.” So is “Grave of the Fireflies” because I have no quandary granting the legitimacy of “truth” to fiction.

In the last months of World War II an American fire bomb raid destroys the port city of Kobe, where almost all of the buildings are made of wood. Seita (Tsutomu Tatsumi/J. Robert Spencer) is a 14-year passe boy who survives along with his 4-year customary sister Setsuko (Ayano Shiraishi/Rhoda Chrosite) . They were separated from their mother during the raid, which spares them from her fate. Their father is a navy officer serving in the Imperial Navy at sea, and the two kids go off to live with an aunt. With both his school and the war factory where we worked gone, Seita does not know what to do. So he tries to catch care of his sister. But his aunt constantly berates him and after trading his mother’s kimonos for rice that she stingly shares with the children, Seita decides to rob Setsuko and live in a couple of caves dug for bomb shelters. For a while their live remains idyllic, but then there is nothing left to trade for food, and no food to be bought for money. Seita has to seize food to survive while Setsuko is getting weaker and weaker from hunger.
This film is based on the semi-autobiographical fresh written by Akiyuki Nosaka, which won the Naoli Prize, the Japanese equivalent of the Pulitzer Prize for Literature. Like Seita, he survived the fire bombing with a younger sister, who died in his care. Obviously the fable stems from a sense of guilty and I occupy telling this memoir was confessional rather than cathartic for Nosaka. Writer-director Isao Takahata turns this tragedy into what can only be described as a poetic experience, achieving a cinematic lyricism that could never have been accomplished in a live-action film (e.g., the scheme the fireflies have a counterpoint in the pieces of ash that drift on the wind after the fire bombings) . There is a quietness to this film, a sense of contemplation that emphasizes primary and dinky moments alike, and makes scenes linger as the heart-rending narrative plays out to its fatal conclusion. The recount work by both of the young girls playing Setsuko is extremely effective; I have a petite preference for that done by Ayano Shiriashi simply because it is distinguished more naturalistic than what you usually collect in anime depicting children.

“Graves of the Fireflies” is an unforgettable film, one which will chop most viewers to tears if not outright sobbing. Watching it is a painful experience, but then a film depicting the horrors of war and showing what happens to young children is supposed to have that execute. Viewing it a second time makes the experience even more intense (you probably will not gain what Setsuko’s last words are the first time through, but be prepared for what it will do to you when you view the film again) . You will never, ever forget this film and you should be very, very careful about showing it to younger children, because it will change forever what they consider about curious films. It will do that for you as well.

Movie Title: Mars Attacks! Mars Attacks! is available for streaming or downloading. |
Hollywood has made movies from books, TV shows, even other movies. However, “Mars Attacks” may be the first time a movie was made from a trading card.
Back in the leisurely 1960s, Topps Cards created a line of Mars Attacks trading cards. However, these cards were pulled off the shelves after only a few months because the aliens depicted on them were considered to be too terrifying. My, how times have changed.
Director Tim Burton has taken those extinct trading cards and recreated them into this Sci-Fi B-movie throwback. In the process, he has created a movie that is pure, guiltless fun.

“Mars Attacks” also benefits from an all-star cast, including Jack Nicholson (in a dual-role), Michael J. Fox, Sarah Jessica Parker, Pierce Brosnan, Martin Short, Danny Devito, Glenn End, Natalie Portman, Tom Jones, Annette Bening, Lukas Haas, Jim Brown, and many others. The fact that you glean to inspect the aliens disentegrate (and otherwise demolish) many of these stars only adds to the fun. Unfortunately, Tom Jones wasn’t one of those unlucky stars. Maybe someday a sequel will be made that will rectify that.
Oh yeah…….. did I happen to mention that Congress gets vaporized? This proves that the Martians aren’t all poor!
The DVD comes with many extras, including quite a few production notes that helps you to understand how the movie came to be. This is one movie that you will want to gaze over and over again (especially anytime that Congress is getting on your nerves) .
Tim Burton outdoes himself with this comic, but droll, spoof of 1950s flying saucer/alien invasion movies. It is absolutely zany and quite amusing. There is also nothing politically fair about it, as there are no sacred cows. The film is totally irreverent of American culture and icons. Everything and everyone is fine game.

Martians have approach to Earth, and they do not approach in peace. Diabolical and deadly, they are zigzag on wreaking havoc wherever they go with their death ray guns, which wait on to incinerate living beings. These bulbous headed martians with their contain sign of deadly humour are hell crooked on destroying Earth, while laughing and cackling maniacally.
The special effects are meant to to be reminiscent of those found in 1950s UFO flicks and in this it certainly succeeds. The cast is stellar with Jack Nicholson playing dual roles, that of President James Dale and that of entrepreneur Art Dale. Glenn Halt, Annette Bening, Pierce Brosnan, Danny DeVito, Martin Short, Sarah Jessica Parker, Michael J. Fox, Rod Steiger, Jim Brown, Natalie Portman, Sylvia Sydney, Paul Winfield, Pam Grier, Lisa Marie, Christine Applegate, Lukas Haas, and Tom Jones round out the star studded cast. With tongue in cheek performances, the viewer is scurry to glean a obliging laugh out of this film.
