Football games won’t be the same!![]()
I upgraded my 120hz Vizio to this model for my family room and can’t believe the clearity! The colors are crisp, the picture is 2nd to none. You can actually see the laces on a football while in the air on a spiral. For the difference in price from the 120 to the 240hz spend it! I did and have 0 regrets. The best TV I’ve ever watched mutchless in my own home!
Vizio SV421XVT – Almost perfect.. almost.![]()
The Vizio SV421XVT, is a very nice 42 inch lcd TV. With 120hz refresh rate, and 240hz scenes per second, this television offers depth perception found only in high end LED TVs. But it is not all gum drops and fairy tales.
This Vizio does NOT offer the bluetooth remote and internet apps. The TruSurround and TruVolumn leave a lot to be desired, and then, you have the Zero Bright Pixel Defect Guarantee, which in reality is not much of a guarantee at all.
I have taken much time compiling the info for this review, and I want to be very clear on one fact, Amazon’s Customer Support is true American loyalty. The staff is top notch!
Vizio is the leading TV seller in the US due to its calibrations with Wal-Mart, Sears, Dell, and Amazon. Our experience with Vizio has been a rocky one.
We are very particular about our lcd TVs and we bought this SV421XVT based solely on the Zero Bright Pixel Guarantee. We called Vizio 3 times before purchase to make sure that this guarantee covers “stuck, bright, and dead” pixels. Their answer, YES!
We could not find this within 100 miles of our home, Vizio wanted $1600 + for it, and Dell has poor customer support in addition to not standing behind Vizio’s Zero Bright Pixel Defect guarantee. So we opted for Amazon, free shipping, A-Z guarantee, and NO SALES TAX!
The first Vizio we received through Amazon came via Pilot. Pilot is a very terrible delivery service, at least in Southern Ohio. No precalls, and our television sat 1hour away for 5 days, before delivery. Then to top that off, we had to press them to deliver it by the latest date of delivery, for they wanted to wait an additional 5 days.
When the Vizio arrived in our home it had a stuck pixel, stuck in the red cycle of red, green, and blue, and it also had a video overlay problem. We called Amazon and they were very helpful, not 5 minutes on the phone, and a new one was shipped that day, for a switch out in our home.
That is when Pilot dropped the ball again. They delivered our replacement but once more failed to precall and had a very lazy attitude towards the delivery. When they arrived, they stated they had no paper work for the pick up of the unit with the stuck pixel and informed us they were required to leave both TVs at our home. So once again a call to Amazon. Amazon was once more VERY VERY helpful and had Pilot back to our home the very next.
Again we had to press pilot for a pick – up time, and when they finally arrived they were an hour late. But alas the TV was returned to Amazon, and we were not charged.
But our experience with this SV421XVT does not end there. The second unit delivered to our home had a red stuck pixel and again a video overlay issue. The video overlay issue is only visible on 720p where is appears as a white vertical line down the right side on the screen, and a black vertical line at 1080p. This issue is noticeable on all HDMI inputs. Since we buy and sale HDMI cables, we were able to cycle through new cables, and verify that is was not interference within the cable. We also hooked it to a PS3 and an Xbox 360, and it was evident on both devices.
This time we decided Amazon was not responsible for Vizio’s poor technology.
It is important for me to once again stress that although the screen had issues, the picture looked beautiful. The depth perception is dazzling with the Smooth Motion Technology and 50,000:1 contrast ratio, your breath will be taken away.
So a call to Vizio led us to a road block. Vizio after stating otherwise three times prior, informed us they do not cover dead/bright pixels, and that this LCD TV does not have the Zero Bright Pixel Guarantee. We had to inform them it does, and that is states it clearly on their website.
They eventually admitted that this SV421XVT does have a Zero Bright Pixel Guarantee, but it does NOT cover dead pixels, contrary to their previous answers. They also informed us that they were aware of the video overlay issue, and that most of their TVs have it, and that they do not service this problem. Mind you this all occurred over 2 days of multiple phone calls to Vizio’s technical support.
We felt as if we were in the circus, for the hoops we had to jump through, just to prove we did in fact own this SV421XVT, and that is was not working properly.
Vizio demanded we take a picture of the single stuck pixel, and that the picture had to have the pixel visible, as well as show the entire front of the 42″ TV. That’s right, they wanted me to stand back, and be able to capture the equivalent to the end of pen, as well as display the entire front of the TV, turned on, and the Vizio logo readable. WOW! That is crazy.
Well I pressed the fact that this was not possible, and demanded they try it themselves. I asked that they send out s service man, and they said we need the pictures. I once again informed them that is was not possible, and I wanted $750 worth of perfect LCD screen, just what I paid for, so the tech. transferred me to a “Level 3″ technician.
The Level 3 technician was a little easier to deal with, and after much convincing that I did in fact own this TV, and sending the best pictures possible, informed me that I would receive a white glove in home switch out.
Well 2 weeks later, a very good freight company arrived with a new TV. They unpacked the LCD and allowed us to cycle through red, green, and blue screens to insure that there were no stuck pixels. There was none. We are now happy.
To sum it up, Amazon is an A+ company. Pilot delivery is worthless. Vizio puts on a good face to sale their product, but does not want to stand behind it. The SV421XVT has a picture quality that truly high definition, but finding a unit without issues is hard.
Vizio SV421XVT – Almost perfect… almost.
UPDATE!!!!!
Please, all readers, attention. We have developed ANOTHER BIRGHT STUCK PIXEL on the right hand middle side of the screen. This time for service, we used a 10 mega pixel camera, and took multiple pictures of the tv. As Vizio requires you must have a picture of the full face plate, the pixel, and the menu. We did everything required to have our current Vizio serviced…. everything and more.
We even went as far as circling the pixel on a few pictures, the response from Vizio, we can’t see it, and corporate offices cannot see it either. Vizio stated that they will not even send out a technician, because the rep. said “We will not service another, this TV without better pictures.” did you read what I heard, he messed up and said “another.” They seen the pixel and they know that all of thier units have them. Nice way to push the responsibility off onto the customer!
This is the third SV421XVT, we have had, it is the third to have a stuck bright pixel, and this one even has a faint over lay issue as well, which we were able to adjust out of the screen. This is the last Vizio product we ever purchase.
Hands down it does offer one of the most stunning pictures on the market, but at nearly $900 on Amazon, and over $1000, at Vizio, a company should stand behind its product and show real support for it’s customer, Vizio just doesn’t do it.
On a side note we own a 1 year old Sony Bravia 40″ LCD, and we have had no issue what so ever from it. It is only 60hz, and has low contrast, but out of the box from Wal-Mart, we have had not a single problem! NOTHING!
My advice to Vizio… you either stand behind your products, or stand down!
I’m no techie – but this is a great TV!![]()
I did my research and did my research and this is a GREAT TV. Perfect! Easy to set up – simply remove from package and power it on! Remote Control and inputs are clearly marked and easy to use. If you need to look at the user manual, it is NOT technical so you can figure out how to hook up your computer/mp3 player or whatever!
And the delivery – I was a little nervous when I learned it would be a “carrier” and not UPS/FEDEX….but they were AWESOME! I’d buy again just for the AWESOME customer service from the carrier.

This camera was great-once I final got it working.
The camera is powered by a POE hub or a separate additional a/c adapter neither of which are included with the camera. Would have been nice to know this BEFORE purchase. For a $800 item you would think that Panasonic would include a way to TURN IT ON, but NO. The ac adapter is item BB-HCA3A (about $40)- or at least warn buyers to get the a/c adapter.
This was very inconvient because after 4 hours of research to figure this out, I had to order the a/c adapter and pay for overnight shipping.

Deceptive Advertising![]()
I ordered these speakers, that’s speakers with an “s” at the end, meaning plural. You would think you would get a pair of speakers. But you don’t. When I called to complain all Amazon would do was tell me I was wrong when their website is clearly wrong. They actually had the audacity to say this one speaker has 2 speakers in it and that’s what the ad means.
I asked if I could get another speaker and they said yes but the price went up $98.00 overnight, this doubled the cost. What a ripoff.
I’ve been an Amazon Prime customer for years and I am very disappointed. Time to try another online vendor.
My local BBB has been notified of the deceptive advertising.

This little scanner is awesome!![]()
My old HP scanner (actually, it wasn’t that old) died a few months ago and it was time for me to get a new one. I accidently came across the predecessor to the ScanScap S1500 (the S510) last week while I was having my taxes done and was amazed at the speed and compactness of it. My tax person also gave it glowing reviews. As I wasn’t aware that Fujitsu manufactured scanners, I thought I’d do a little research which led me to reviews of the S510 here on Amazon. Rather amazingly, I was very surprised to find that the S510 had so many extraordinarily high reviews (something that I don’t believe I come across too often, especially with items such as scanners). One of those reviews mentioned that a new model (this one – the S1500) had just been released by Fujitsu. After some more research (it wasn’t yet listed on Amazon), I found that this scanner was available and that it had many new features. As it turns out, I was the “first kid on my block” to acquire one and I’m glad I did! This machine is incredible!
The speed is absolutely blinding – an incredible 20 pages per minute but, because it scans both sides of a page at the same time, double sided documents scan at 40 PAGES PER MINUTE! Wow! As with previous models, this scanner is very small and appears to be well built: it’s quite heavy for its small size and fits very nicely on my small computer desk. The scanning quality is equally spectacular – it scans up to 600 dpi in color, grayscale, and black and white and mine came with a good assortment of software (Adobe Acrobat 9, Rack2-Filer, and ABBYY FineReader). It scans documents beautifully! While I’ve been too busy scanning the billions of pieces of paper that have cluttered my life for years (this scanner will actually do that quickly and efficiently – something I’ve always just dreamed would be possible), I haven’t yet tried to scan photos; I suspect that this scanner will do a good job but that another type of scanner would probably do better for archival purposes).
The only problems I’ve had were with Acrobat (I already have Acrobat 9 Pro on my computer) – I found that importing previously scanned documents into Rack2-filer were always listed in reverse order (ugh!) and Fujitsu tech support replicated the problem. They suggested, however, that I completely uninstall (not just repair) Acrobat and reinstall it. That did the job. BTW, I received great tech support from Fujitsu.
One interesting thing is that this scanner does not come with TWAIN drivers. Because of this, it is not possible to use it to the same extent as other scanners. Just the same, my reason for getting this scanner was to create .pdf files and this scanner does it like no other.
Overall, I’m thrilled with the Fujitsu S1500 – there is no question that it is the best one I’ve had (and I’ve had many) and is well worth the money (the S1500 is also the most expensive scanner I’ve ever purchased). I would recommend this to anyone who needs to scan documents.
Good hardware but no twain driver is a significant limitation![]()
I purchased this scanner as a first step in creating an electronic filing system for a home office. As I accumulated 20 filing cabinet drawers of paper documents going paperless seemed to be an answer.
Purchase of the Fujitsu S1500 was based on the numerous 5 star reviews. I am reasonably tech literate and have used the scanner for about 2 weeks. Here are my initial impressions:
Pros –
1. Speed: This scanner seems blazingly fast. Not a resource hog. Will scan duplex 20-25ppm at default settings on Win2K/1.8mhz/1gb platform.
2. Scan quality very good at all settings.
3. Size and looks: Small desk footprint. Looks great open or closed.
4. Excellent paper feeding as long as documents are same size and 20# or greater paper weight.
Cons –
1. NO TWAIN DRIVER. I knew this going in but did not appreciate how much this would cripple the device in day to day use. Let me explain. I had envisioned creating a virtual file cabinet in my computer using Windows Directory/Folder/File system then scanning my paper documents into this system as pdf files. The problem is that the native Fujitsu software does not let you append an existing pdf file!!!
As an example take a file for utility bills. D:/Home Expenses/Utilities/Gas_Electric.pdf. You can easily scan in all prior bills(limited by 50 sheet ADF)and a pdf with one page for each bill will be created. But if you had more than 50 prior bills or when next months bill comes then the next scan you perform to include these new documents will create a new pdf and does not allow the option of appending this more recent scan to the existing pdf. As you can see one could easily end up with 1000s of individual pdf documents in your filing system. The work around is to launch Adobe Acrobat (not reader) and use it to open the old composite pdf and use Acrobat to append the newly created pdf to the prior file. This work around takes longer than scanning in a 30 page document. Twain based scanners easily work with existing windows file structure and allow you to append an existing pdf without invoking Acrobat.
2. Paper catch tray very fragile and ADF paper support does not stay up (also reported by other reviewers).
3. Double feed sensor: stops scan and reports. This is good. However you cannot retrieve the double fed sheet and place it back in proper order because the next sheet is already in the scanner and cannot be backed out. You have to either cancel the scan and start over or put the unread sheet back in out of order and then use Acrobat to rearrange the pages in the resultant pdf document. If you choose to cancel the scan the document that is halfway into the scanner will not be ejected and you need to perform an new scan to retrieve that sheet.
4. A scanning run will only handle one size document at a time. In my experience if you have a mix of paper sizes you will need to do a scanning run for each paper size. Each run will generate a separate pdf file with you will then need to deal with.
5. I paid extra for the scanner bundle with Rack2File software thinking it would help me create the filing system I envisioned. After loading and spending several hours with this software I don’t understand how it works or what it is supposed to do. I consider the extra $30 dollars I spent for the “bundled” scanner money poorly spent.
6. Other minor annoyances are:
While the scanner and snapscan software will run on older platforms the bundled software Rack2file and Acrobat require XPpro SP3 or newer. This is not clear from specs.
ADF will hold 40-50 sheets but output tray will start to jam after 20-25 sheets.
Documents printed on less than 20# paper and with printing on both sides the back side printing will show up on the front side scan. Many commercial invoices are printed both sides on thin paper.
Cannot set several default scanning profiles. You need to reset the scanner parameters each time you want a different profile.
Bottom line:
This would be a 5 star low end document scanner if it only offered a twain driver. As it is I can recommend it only to prospective buyers who understand the full implications of this limitation. I thought of returning this scanner and getting one of the twain based models like the Epson GT S50 but at this point I have learned enough of Acrobat to quickly append my pdfs retrospectively.
I strongly recommend avoiding the “bundled” product since I don’t see what added value the Rack2File software brings.
I considered giving the scanner a one star review just to get people’s attention but the hardware is so good 3 stars seems about right.
Fast, efficient, quality product…![]()
I have scanned about 8000 sheets so far. I have found these settings helpful with rack2filer:
1. Auto color detection, Duplex, Best image quality (300dpi Color/Grey 600dpi BW), Options [Only Blank page removal checked (no auto rotation - slows down page viewing)], Continuous scanning.
2. Same as above except change color mode to gray.
And in general I have found:
The multifeed detector works great and has detected many double feeds. It handles old thin thermal fax paper without double feeds – pretty amazing, because I would think that if anything would jam or double feed it would be that. The prompt shows the image of the detected multifeed and gives you the option of keeping it or discarding it – this has been helpful when it detects sticky notes on scanned paper that are supposed to be there.
It has handled many old papers – barely legible and has done an adequate job picking up light print.
Very light or old papers with light print or pencil hand writing are better handled by forcing the color detection to grey. Otherwise Auto everything works well.
Blank page detection – does not work with the other side of lined loose leaf paper or graph paper that has nothing written on it. That is to be expected – but a possible design improvement idea for this product. And to get around this, I have set the scanning side to single-sided. Otherwise blank page detection worked well.
Scans looked exactly like the originals and in rack2 filer the binders read and looked as well as the paper binders.
When it does jam (which was rarely the scanners fault and mostly from staples, taped paper or over loading), the prompt shows the last few pages scanned which makes it easy to recover.
Fanning and creating a step-like pattern of your paper stack before loading the paper makes a big difference in preventing paper jams.
Some of the advantages:
I can take many binders worth on information with me on my notebook without dragging the heavy paper binders in my bag – or one of those wheeled bags that my colleagues use.
There is the security of now being able to have multiple copies of my binders in physically different locations [desktop, notebook, and off site backups] all without using a copy machine.
I need less space for file cabinets [files], bookshelves [binders], and thus less office space.
Everything is now in one place. My office is too small to have all my binders and files together, but now they all fit in one folder on my hard drive.
Although I will still use paper to write on, I don’t foresee a reason to ever need to bind or file papers anymore. Just take notes, scan, and recycle.
The actual images for Rack2Filer and CardMinder are in PDF files so if anything happens with Rack2filer – you can always access the data via windows explorer and acrobat.
I have used NeatWorks for my accounting (receipts), documents, and business cards for about a year now. The mobile scanner scans at 3 ppm black and white and 2ppm color – single sided only. So for duplex color ScanSnap is (20ppm x 2)/2ppm = 20x faster – a huge improvement. The NeatWorks software is also heavy and slow compared to Rack2filer and CardMinder.
However, NeatWorks is better than ScanSnap organizer or Rack2filer for receipts. And it can import the PDF scans from the S1500. So, I recommend using NeatWorks software (not the NeatWorks/Desk scanner) for receipts, Rack2Filer for documents and CardMinder for Business cards.

Customer Reviews:
Great Unit for the Price![]()
I purchased the unit and I love it. I would recommend previous buyers to look at the latest software and maybe upgrade because my experience was delightful. To put this into context this unit uses the same software as the Mio brand. I live in the Atlanta Metro area and I use it to help me get around the city. While using it I learned new roads that I didn’t know existed which increased the quality of my commute. I paired my unit with a T-Mobile Dash and switched back and forth between my phone and the GPS unit with no ill effects. The 4.3″ screen is large enough without being overbearing. I connected it to the windshield using the suction cup connector which feels sturdy and sure. Driving around Atlanta, I selected the female voice which can be heard over the radio and road noise even on a medium setting. If could ask for one feature it would be for support for real-time traffic, but the bypass feature works fine if I’m stuck in traffic which provides me with alternative routes. I plan to get one for my mother-in-law who just relocated to Atlanta after living in New York City for over 35 years because it is simple to use. My sister purchased a Garmin unit (I don’t remember the model but the price was $259 on sale) and she mentioned that it didn’t have Bluetooth. For me the price of $148 is the sweet spot for GPS units. This one works great and delivers on it’s promises.
Software Issues The Size of Wisconsin![]()
I have owned and used this unit for a month now. It sounded like a great deal on the surface due to its specifications/features and a low price. Shortly after buying it, it became very clear to me why the unit has such a low price. Though the unit has some potential, the following issues should make you look at other manufacturers/brands:
1. The software is not intuitive. Even after a month of using it, I get lost in the menus and not clear about how to do some basic GPS tasks.
2. While driving from Chicago to Milwaukee, I realized that the entire state of Wisconsin maps are missing! The Audiovox/Jensen website claims that all 50 states are included. I discoverd Wisconsin maps missing but there may be other states missing also. There is no way to download the missing maps.
3. Contacting customer service is a complete waste of time. There is NO technical support available of ANY kind.
4. The bluetooth works but the volume is too low for it to be functional. If you have an auxilary input available on your car audio unit, you will have to us it for bluetooth.
Great feature set and price, bad UI![]()
PROS: plays video’s and music. Great price. Fast GPS satelite acquisition time, lot’s of options to adjust.
BAD: Difficult to use UI. No map updates from Jensen.
Overall: For the price of $150 bucks this unit offers what similar priced offering from Tomtom or garmin simply do not have. Media playback and bluetooth is a nice plus. TTS does work despite some online comments (but you have to select it in advanced options; it’s not the default). The map is easy and can be manipulated with the stylus very easily. This unit is great for the thrifty/tech savvy buyer. There are some difficulties to overcome however. First, it is difficult to figure out how to save addresses (you have to select it in map mode, then add it as a POI). Also, the buttons are typically smaller than what is on my Garmin so it’s somewhat more difficult to make selections while on the road and driving.

Best Entertainment Solution for Your Vehicle![]()
Let me first start out saying that I have owned this product for over a month now and it has exceeded my expectations. I chose headrest monitors instead of the drop down roof mounted ones because I did not want to obstruct rear view vision and allow independent viewing / game play while on long road trip. These cd /dvd players mounted in the headrest eliminate the extra wiring to a dvd console.
My only hesitation from purchasing these earlier was from not knowing if there was any noise coming from the fan / dvd that would drive me bonkers, but I was very pleased to learn this was not the case. These units were quiet – the only thing I can hear from the rear were giggles from the Monty Python movie my son was watching while we were on a three hour trip. Simply Awesome.
I installed these myself since there was power under the seat (for power seats), but had to call support to find out which post carried the power and which were a/v. Tech guy was helpful – power cable is on DVD side(FYI). The size of the screen was perfect – it looks alot bigger than I imagined and I am glad I did not go for the bigger screen that would have been problematic. The brightness and quality of the picture was superb. comes with two remotes and good to use since touch screen is great if you don’t have the remote handy, but you will have to put up with finger smudges.
Really good headrest players![]()
We purchased these in mid-May for our 2007 Sienna, and really like them. We installed them ourselves, and there are a couple of things you should know up front:
1. The cables run through the headrest prongs. You have to have access through the seat to grab them and run them to a power source. The Sienna has a plastic skidpad on the back of each front seat, so I was able to reach through the side and grab the cables. If you don’t have that, getting the cables may be tricky.
2. The provided cables have power and ground, but they are “pigtails” (exposed wires at the end of the cables) and no 12V adapter is provided with the set. We found a “Banana Jack” 12V adapter through which they could be threaded at RadioShack for $10 each, which we could easily plug into our 12V outlets in the van.
Installation was simple, aside from those minor caveats. The picture quality is good, and we really liked the wireless headphones provided (I wasn’t sure they were wireless from the product description listed). Note that the touch screen does not allow you to select DVD menu items in what you are watching, but instead give you the players’ function menus, such as setting up the FM output channel and whatnot. The remote also needs to be pointed at the headrest for it to work, which isn’t ideal, but isn’t a big problem either.
For the money, these players were everything we really wanted. No potential projectiles in the event of a crash, and easy to remove when we’re not on a long trip. Also easy enough to install for two non-electricians or car audio/video experts.
Great Product![]()
I have owned this product for two weeks. Installation was very easy. All you do is run two cords down through the seat. I connected to the 12V power through my console which had a 12V plug.
The product works as advertised. Having two separate DVD players is wonderful. The FM transmitter allows the DVD to play over your car stereo and there are 5 stations to pick from. The headsets provided were good quality and worked fine. Each monitor has a video/audio out and in.
We just got back from a trip to Disney. We drove from Dallas to Disney World so they were use A LOT. I hooked up the Wii and that worked out really well. The screens had great color and were plenty bright during the day. Touch screen controls kept us from needing to worry about remotes.
Highly recommend!

Customer Reviews:
PC friendly, Great picture!![]()
I replaced another brand with this set. The last brand had issues working with my pc. It was very fussy about settings for the display. With this set, everything is smooth. I was told LG’s are well suited for use with pc’s. I was hesitant, since this set was quite less expensive than the one it replaced. Well, the picture is just as good, and it certainly is more pc friendly. Can’t comment on the sound. I don’t listen to the TV speakers. 6 months and glitch free. It also has analog out,
which is a nice addition to the digital out. I like the remotes uncrowded layout. The power switch on the front of the TV is nice. You wouldn’t even realize it was there, and the power on glow is very dim, never drawing attention. Very pleased with my purchase.
Was worried about purchase but Happy with outcome.![]()
I’ve never ordered anything this large and expensive online before so I was nervous about my purchase. In the end everything turned out perfect, The TV arrived without any scratches, no dead pixels, or other defects. The “Pilot” delivery service sent 2 guys who were nice and set up the TV for me and made sure it worked.
About the TV: No complaints. The TV is everything it says it is in the above description so it’s all I expected it to be.
My only wish is that there was a headphone jack on this TV but there isn’t.
Little warning about what to expect with a 1080p HDTV. Before I did some research I assumed that everything I watched on this TV would be a big improvement over my previous 720p HDTV but I was wrong. The only things that are improvements over a 720p is 1080p content which is pretty much just blu-ray movies. Cable TV, Playstation 3 videogames, Xbox 360 videogames, are all 720p. And content that is native 720p looks best on a 720p tv. So I did notice that cable and video games looked slightly better on my previous 720p tv but Blu-ray movies looked best on this 1080p TV.
Over all I am very satisfied with my purchase and recommend this TV.
Great if you win the panel lottery… Good otherwise.![]()
I’m generally happy with the TV for the price I paid. It’s a big, entry level 1080p model so I wan’t expecting too much. The limited inputs don’t matter to me since I run through an AVR first and the casual observer probably won’t care about my major gripe (see below).
Pros:
Great price for a 47″ 1080p
Advanced color correction software
Esthetically pleasing
1 BIG Con:
The panel lottery! There is a big gap in the quality you can expect out of the picture depending on the panel you end up getting (you can check which panel you have by shining a flashlight through the grill on the back). I ended up with a Chi Mei panel (CMO) which is one of the cheapest panels you can put into a TV. What kills me is that increasingly, manufacturers are using 1 set of components for the 1st run off the line, then switching to cheaper components (without changing the model number) after cNet, Amazon and the blogosphere at large sing the praises of the first run. Sony was sued in a class action for this garbage.
From what I’ve gathered around the internet, no less than 3 panels have been used in this model and it DOES make a difference.
I did a true side by side with an “off-brand” 3 year old 720p Olevia (which this was replacing)…. Brighthouse HD cable-box into both using HDMI, factory defaults. Anecdotally, I can say that the Olevia had much more detail in the black levels. I thought it was impossible, so I tweaked the LG as much as I could using different modes/advanced options and I could not get the same level of detail in the dark areas as the Olevia. Blacks were either gray and blocky or completely black…. no in between.
My jaw dropped when I watched the ending credits of a show with extremely fast horizontally scrolling credits (white sans-serif text on a black background). On the Olevia I could read every word but on the LG, it was a looooong blur. I could only read the words when I forced my eye to track the words as they flew by and even that was a challenge. The Olevia had originally listed its response time as 8ms (did I mention 3 years ago?!?!?), while the box this thing came in said 5ms. NO WAY. Maybe when the model was orginally released (with top-shelf components), and filed with the FCC and reviewed everywhere online… but there is no doubt in my mind that the “off-brand” 3 year old 720p OLEVIA handles motion better than this brand new LG.
Granted I’m not using scientific methods or precision measuring equipment. This is just how I’m seeing it. I really wanted to love this TV but right now I think in order to get what’s on the box/in the specs, you have to buy the newest model.
I understand that there are times when a manufacturer has to change component suppliers, but I feel the industry as a whole is effectively baiting and switching to increase their bottom line. Lesson learned.

Which Size HDTV is Right for My Room?
|
With standard-definition TVs, the rule used to be that viewers would feel comfortable watching a set from a distance of 3 to 6 times the screen size in inches. With HDTV, the resolution is so much better that you can sit closer to a larger TV without noticing the pixels. So with HDTVs, the rule tends to be you can sit anywhere from 1.5 to 3 times the screen size (in inches) for the best experience. If you know the size of the room you have already, where you want to sit, and where your new HDTV should go once you get it, you can figure out the size HDTV you should get.
